Ben Franklin Career and Technical Education Center

Ben Franklin Career Center is located at 500 28th Street in Dunbar, West Virginia and serves secondary students from all area high schools and adult students from throughout the county and other nearby counties. Ben Franklin Career Center primary responsibility is to place students into the entry-level job market. Ben Franklin offers an extensive evening parttime programs that are designed for training adults to meet the needs for local businesses.

Honors, Programs & Awards

The Medical Assistant program has placed three first place state winners in the Vocational Industrial Club of America (VICA) competition and has won two years in a row on the national level. A state of the arts computer system that is networked throughout the school with fiber optic cabling. Students have competed on the international level of the VICA competition in Air Conditioning. All of the staff is certified in their discipline area. Overall placement rate is 92%.

Activities

Students are members of either Health Occupations Students Association, Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, or Home Economics Organization. Students are responsible for service work for the community and surrounding areas. Students have the opportunity to become a part of apprenticeships with county and local businesses.

Special Projects

Many students have an opportunity to become part of an apprenticeship program serving the county and local businesses. Ben Franklin Career Center is involved with High Schools That Work in conjunction with a local high school (Sissonville High School) in order to better prepare students who select to attend Ben Franklin. Ben Franklin is also involved with articulation agreements with several of the major colleges in the area.
